The perfect breakfast for some early winter warmth, and much more healthy than traditional porridge. Soak some jumbo oats in cold water for an hour (not essential, but it does make a difference!). The quantity of oats to water should be about 1:2 in volume.

Apple and pear porridge


  • 2 chopped apples
  • 2 chopped pears
  • Flaked almonds for the topping.
  • Pinch of cinnamon and/or other spices to taste


Cook gently for 10 mins approximately in a saucepan, stirring from time to time.

Cut up two apples into small chunks and add two chopped pears into approximately 2 mugs of water. Sprinkle in the cinnamon and/or other spices. Stew on a low heat with a lid on for approximately 10 minutes, watching that the water doesn’t boil off.

Stir over the porridge and top with the flaked almonds.
